🏫 Welcome to Rothesay Park School (RPS)

We’re excited to have you as part of the RPS community! Middle school is a time to grow, learn, make new friends, and try new things. Our school motto is:

“Stand Tall, Fly High.”

📚 Academics at RPS

  • Do your best—that’s our top priority.
  • Your work will be graded from 1 to 4:
    • 1 – I didn’t do what was asked.
    • 2 – I did some, but not all.
    • 3 – I did everything asked.
    • 4 – I went above and beyond!
  • Learning Habits are also reported:
    • Independence, Initiative, Interactions, Organization, Responsibility.
    • Rated as: Consistent, Usually, Sometimes, Rarely.
  • Kate Robarts Outstanding Student Award (Grade 8) – Recognizes a well-rounded student.

🍁 Order of the Maple Leaf (OML)

An award for students who:
✔️ Work hard
✔️ Are respectful and kind
✔️ Follow rules
✔️ Help their community

To qualify, you must do community service each term:

  • Grade 6 – 2 hours
  • Grade 7 – 3 hours
  • Grade 8 – 4 hours

Must be signed by a non-family member and handed in to your homeroom teacher.

🏃 Sports at RPS

We offer fun and fair team sports:
✅ Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Ski Racing, Badminton, Track & Field, Cross-Country

⚖️ Behaviour and Discipline

  • Be prepared, polite, and responsible.
  • Keep your space neat.
  • No bullying or rough behavior.
  • Dress appropriately (no hats indoors, no offensive graphics).

Minor issues are handled by teachers. Major issues may involve the principal or police (if it breaks the law).

🚌 Transportation

  • Ride only your assigned bus.
  • Parents can’t write notes to change buses.
  • Changes must go through the District Office.

👕 Dress Code & Personal Items

  • Dress for the weather and comfort indoors.
  • Have indoor shoes for the gym.
  • No hats in school.
  • Keep valuables at home (school isn’t responsible for lost/stolen items).

🧾 Student Fees

  • $40 per student covers:
    • Lock rental
    • Bus for activities
    • Special guests
    • PE items:
      • Grade 6 – Grade level t-shirt
      • Grade 7 – Grade level t-shirt
      • Grade 8 – T-shirt with names of students

🕗 Daily Schedule

  • School Day: 8:20 AM – 2:40 PM
  • Break: 15 minutes
  • Lunch: 40 minutes
  • Breakfast available: 7:50–8:15 AM
  • Hot lunch can be ordered online.

📝 Homework

  • Assigned to build good habits and practice skills.
  • Communicated through School Messenger or Microsoft Teams.
  • Parents: Please check in regularly and contact teachers if there are issues.

📅 Attendance

  • Must attend daily.
  • If absent, a written excuse/email is required (per law).
  • Use the Safe Arrival System to report absences.

🚪 Leaving During the Day

  • Sign in if you’re late.
  • Sign out if you leave early.
  • Students can’t leave school grounds during the day.

📞 Communication

📵 Phones & Tech

  • Cell phones go in lockers at the start of the day and stay there until dismissal.
  • School phones are for emergencies and must be approved by staff.

🥜 Nut-Free & Scent-Reduced

  • No nuts due to allergies.
  • Please use unscented products when visiting the school.

🩺 Medical Info

  • Let the school know about any medical conditions.
  • For medication:
    • Prescription meds: Parent and doctor’s forms needed.
    • Over-the-counter (e.g. Tylenol): Allowed with signed permission.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parent Involvement

  • Parents are welcome! Just sign in at the office.
  • You can volunteer, attend assemblies, or contact teachers/admin with questions.
